What was green lantern super power

If you thought the empty space station was awesome, wait until you find out how Hal Jordan dealt with grief. In Return of Superman , Jordan returns to his hometown of Coast City only to find out its ruins with the inhabitants long dead or gone.

Instead of wallowing in misery, Jordan remembered that he had a ring which can create anything. So, he recreated the whole city. Not just the whole city, but also everything in it, including the people, cars, and animals. All of them even moved and had their own consciousness, at least based on Jordan's perspective. It's too bad Jordan couldn't mourn in peace or creativity; the Guardians of the Universe soon demanded that he answer for his misuse of power.

To be fair, it's more like the ability to travel time, since you can't create time travel. Still, this capability is simply too powerful to omit.

Regardless, the Green Lantern Power Ring can create a way for users to travel through time. It's basically a mini portable time machine as well. It's similar to Flash's Speed Force, but more controlled and less powerful. For a Green Lantern to travel through time, they simply have to have enough willpower to supply their Ring. Of course, time travel with a Green Lantern Ring requires immense amounts of willpower. That didn't stop Hal Jordan from going as far as the 70th century at one time!

With all that's been said and done, and even with the imagination and willpower of Green Lanterns, the most powerful thing a Green Lantern Ring has ever created is itself. More specifically, the Green Lantern Ring can make another version of itself effortlessly.

This second ring is permanent and has the exact same function as the original also indestructible ; that second Ring can then make another duplicate and so on and so forth. A Green Lantern can even give a duplicate Ring to another, or keep it in case they need a backup. Still, the duplication process and command is only known to the Guardians, meaning the Green Lanterns can't abuse it.

It truly is among the most powerful weapons in the DC universe. By Sid Natividad Published Aug 04, Share Share Tweet Email 0. The second was when, as an adult and trained pilot himself, he was summoned to the crashed wreckage of a spaceship belonging to an alien named Abin Sur.

Abin explained that he was a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an organization of beings from across the cosmos, armed with power rings fueled by the green energy of all willpower in the universe. For Hal has sworn the oath of every Green Lantern—that no evil will escape his sight.

How about a scary story? From House of Mystery to Tales of the Unexpected , DC and horror have gone together like vampires and blood, witches and Crane is more potent than ever before. With his signature fear gas, Scarecrow has always prided An unthinkable tragedy propels Superman into a dangerous new mindset, ultimately pitting Justice League members against each other in Injustice , an all-new DC Animated Movie.

One universally acknowledged truth of life and death in DC comics is that the deceased rarely stay that way forever. Oftentimes, these reunions can be cause for celebration. When the Joker manages to fool Superman, the results are shocking and utterly disastrous in this clip from Injustice that was shown during DC FanDome Inspired by the bestselling video game and comic series, Hal Jordan.

There, Sinestro appeared, apparently resurrected and reinstated as a Lantern by the Guardians. Hal fought and killed Sinestro and then killed Kilowog, who had tried reaching out to him one last time.

In the process, Parallax possessed him. Hal emerged from the remains of the battery, now possessing incredible power. He crushed his own power ring beneath his boot before leaving Oa. Knowing they would soon be attacked by Hal, the Guardians of the Universe decided to sacrifice their lives to ensure that at least one power ring and personal battery would remain active, guided by the Guardian named Ganthet who was chosen to survive.

Hal, after absorbing the full power of the Guardians and emerging from the Central Power Battery, declared he was to be called Parallax. Only Ganthet understood he was now possessed by a creature of that name. Others simply assumed this was a new name Hal had selected to signify he was a new man. With his new power, Hal was no longer satisfied with only resurrecting Coast City. He concluded there was too much tragedy in the universe and that history needed to be redesigned. Taking advantage of time anomalies and other phenomena, Hal set off a chain reaction that unleashed entropy and began corrupting time.

He went after Kyle Rayner in order to take back his power ring, but then thought better of it and gave the young man his blessing to be the new Green Lantern.

Kyle Rayner sought Hal Jordan to help defeat him. Hal then used all his power to simultaneously reignite the sun and absorb the Sun-Eater into himself.

He died in the process, and many of his former colleagues forgave him for losing his way as Parallax, satisfied he had redeemed himself through his sacrifice. The Spectre bonded with Hal, declaring that his soul needed to be redeemed and could do so as its new host. Hal accepted, hoping to be not an angel of vengeance but an angel of redemption.

After doing so, the Spectre severed its connection to Hal, leaving his soul in Purgatory. Ganthet was able to guide Hal's soul back to his preserved body and resurrect him, and the four men from Earth joined forces as Green Lanterns to imprison Parallax once more.

The Guardians restarted the Green Lantern Corps while Hal, free of fearful influence for the first time in years, became a hero again in the newly rebuilt Coast City, California. Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner remained on Oa to help with recruitment and training of new Green Lanterns, working alongside the resurrected Kilowog. Hal Jordan and John Stewart were both assigned to Sector Hal Jordan was designated Green Lantern The Green Lantern Corps also created their own internal affairs unit, composed of Lanterns who were turned into cyborg Alpha Lanterns.

Meanwhile, Hal and the Green Lantern Corps discovered that others were accessing the remaining powers and emotions of the emotional spectrum. Ganthet left the Guardians to found the Blue Lantern Corps, which utilized the power of hope. A secret Indigo Tribe using the power of compassion was revealed to have been formed years ago by Abin Sur. A creature named Larfleeze possessed the single orange lantern ring empowered by avarice. The alien Atrocitus created a Red Lantern Corps empowered by rage.

And Sinestro raised an army of fear-empowered soldiers he called the Sinestro Corps. After being reanimated, he released thousands of Black rings from the Central Battery, and the Black Lantern Corps arose, an army of undead heroes, villains and civilians reanimated by the rings. The many Lantern Corps of the emotional spectrum ceased their rivalries and banded together against the Black Lanterns. Hal then resurrected William Hand so the villain could be punished, no longer able to access the Black Lantern power—his link to Nekron severed.

Hal and the White Lantern entity then separated, with Hal and the other heroes of the White Lantern Corps returning to their normal states. During this time, Hal used a Sinestro Corps ring and encountered the technology of the earliest Green Lanterns. Hal also inspired Sinestro to join the fight, which led to him returning to the Green Lantern Corps. Simon Baz took his place as one of the Green Lanterns of Sector Hal attempted to start a new life on Earth. But Sinestro arrived and used his own Green Lantern ring to create a copy for Jordan to use.

The Guardians of the Universe decided that the Green Lantern Corps, like the first army of protectors they had created—the Manhunters—was too flawed to be trusted.
