Which is better geography or history

They're all out there somewhere. Both subjects are great, so you should hopefully enjoy whatever you end up choosing. In my opinion, geo seems way more interesting than history, but I think it really depends on which subject you would enjoy studying more.

History allows us to understand the culture not only within our home nation but other nations as well.

The American expansion will help you to understand the pioneer mindset still evident in the Midwest. Similarly, examining the events of the First World War, you will come to see how it was the beginning of the end for Imperialism. You will understand how it redrew the political map and set the world on course for an even bigger conflict 21 years later. History is an engaging and intriguing subject that will allow you to point your studies in several different directions.

The first — most obvious one — is to study History at A Level and beyond with an undergraduate degree. History also complements a range of other subjects including English, classical civilisations, geography, sociology, psychology and many more.

The skills you develop in history — through studying evidence and structuring arguments — are invaluable across most subjects. GCSE History can also start you on a path towards a fulfilling career. People with qualifications in history go on to become authors, secondary school teachers, journalists, archaeologists, archivists and curators.

But, because history complements so many other subjects, your GCSE could take you on a totally different path. Depending on what piques your interest and what you choose to study alongside History. Geography as a subject is highly nuanced subject. It focused on the study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere and the effects of human activity. This includes the human impact on the environment, distribution of populations and resources and political and economic activities.

If you choose to study GCSE Geography you will get to examine topics such as urban issues and challenges. This covers urbanisation, and its affects, the emergence of megacities and human migration. These courses are designed to prepare international students to enter into Keele University undergraduate degrees. Following successful completion including any additional progression requirements of the foundation year you can progress on to this course.

The foundation year offers September starts across all subjects, and January starts across all science, humanities, social sciences and business routes.

The January intake excludes the Veterinary Medicine and Surgery degree with Foundation Year and other health-related foundation Year degree. If you do not meet the requirements for direct entry onto the BA Hons Geography and History course, our Foundation Year can provide an alternative route into your degree.

The Keele University Foundation Year is a two semester programme which provides a tailored pre-degree programme of study to better prepare you for the BA Hons Geography and History degree. Course content has been developed in collaboration with degree teaching teams, so that by the time you begin Year 1, you will be ready to excel at your studies, as the majority of our Foundation Year students do.
