What makes catholics different to the other denominations
The only thing God requires is that you believe with your heart that He is God Almighty and accept Jesus as your Savior and you will be save. If you confess your sins to God and turn from them, God is just to forgive you and never looks back. The next thing is to find a Church where there is also Bible study.
God tells us to study to show ourselves approved. We were born into sin therefore God knows we will stumble alone the way. God Bless. God requires us to believe in his Son Jesus Christ and also to believe in him. By following the rules in the bible which is the New testament that includes us all for forgiveness and a new life when you have repented. You want to be closer to God and let others know the joy of being a child of Christ is?
In my experience that would be building a deeper relationship with God, and the includes giving Him reverence where ever you are and with what ever your doing, God is never separate from us and we can converse with Him when ever we need.
I pray you do realize how ever present God is and how much He is waiting for to go deeper with Him. Yeah humans just appeared out of nowhere. Brother, not even a chair can be created without a creator then how did this whole universe with stars and moons adn planets can appear out of nowhere. Of course there is an incredibly powerful God who somehow created everything from nothing. Our wondrous planet is but a tiny cell within the body of God and we humans are the DNA within that cell.
God is everything, the whole universe. The universe is the body of God and each star and planet is an essential function of God. God is not a Him or Her, God is a supernatural entity. These are questions which we shall never know the answer to. My question is why do you have your name as Satan when he comes from the bible too and related with God. Tell me, does a building just come out of nowhere?
Does a certain design on a machine become itself like that? Also, Christians pray to God and Catholics pay to Saints. We attend Church, not Mass. You left out many things.. If you would like us to add some points into this article about the differences between Catholics and Christians please let us know and we will be happy to do so. Christians pray to God- Catholics pray to God and saints. Also, Christians attend church services and gatherings- Catholics attend mass and church services and gatherings.
Catholics pray to God and Saints — we ask Saints to help intercede on our behalf with God, and pray for us. Catholics can pray in other places besides Churches, Cathedrals — a long time ago I had gone to a couple of Polka Masses in a park that had a little bit livelier music than we normally have , and I also went to a church services in a college campus.
About the saints:In the Bible it states that only God can hear your prayers, saints are dead peaople from the past and cannot communicate with humans on earth. Just to point out.. Very well done from a non Catholic Christian working man point of view. Thanks for bringing all Christian beliefs together regardless of title. Cathlics belive we eat and drink the body and blood of Christ.
A: I think this is better expressed as belief that the Catholic faith expresses the fullness of Truth, as revealed by both sacred scripture and apostolic tradition. We believe other Christians have a more limited understanding of this Truth.
The reason we believe this is that the bishops in communion with the pope have the teaching authority given them by Jesus, and passed on down the centuries through apostolic succession.
A: This is not quite right. However, we must respond to God and receive His grace through acts of will and faith. Justification comes through faith working in love. Faith without works is dead. If I have faith to move a mountain, that is nothing if I have not love. Definition of love is giving of oneself for the benefit of others.
What Jesus did for us, and what we are to do as we daily take up our cross and follow him. This is the path of salvation. This is what Scripture and Tradition says. A: False. A: This is a total misrepresentation of the role of the Pope. He is the first bishop among bishops, in the direct line of succession to St. Peter, who Jesus gave the keys to the kingdom to teaching authority. The teaching authority of the Church is represented by the Pope in communion with the bishops.
Meaning, that all the bishops together with the Pope promulgate doctrine and interpretation of Scripture. Meaning that they all actually have to come to agreement, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Pope may teach the faithful, as do the bishops, but his teaching himself is not considered infallible except under very limited and narrow circumstances, and also in communion with the bishops , nor as the teaching of the Church itself.
A: Also false. Thanks for putting up this page and edifying us about our differences! I agree with you on the Pope. The bishops have a lot to say about things. We have the rosary which has Our Father and also has the Hail Mary.. Remember that when Jesus died the veil was torn from top to bottom breaking the separation between humans and God Luke , Matthew , 1 Timothy Read Luke I agree with you Val. When Jesus died, the veil at Holy of Holies was torn signifying that anybody can go directly to God to pray and not through intercession of Saints or Mary.
I have never met a Christian that believed Mary was sinless until now. All humans are born with a sinful nature. Only Jesus was sinless, which is why He alone could die for our sins and fulfill the law.
Catholics do not worship Mary, that is very misunderstood. My father thought we did too he was Methodist. She is a Saint, the Mother of God, and was the only person besides Jesus that was born without original sin. God picked her out to be the Mother of Jesus before she was born. When we pray — we pray to Mary to ask her to intercede with God for us. She is very important, and our Mother too, but we ask God for forgiveness us and to have mercy on us.
We would not ask Mary to have mercy on us or forgive us our sins. Mary was human. Mary did have sin. She was chosen to bear Jesus due to her great faith in God. The moment Adam and Eve ate from the tree they became sinners. So that will make all of there descendants sinners. But through God who willed it and chose a body that has not been touched by a mans.
Once again all humans are sinners. I pray every time I sin and try my best to not continue bad habits. I was wondering what the differences between Christianity and Catholicism were and I found this.
Now I am confused whether I should consider my self Catholic or Christian. That is an understandable sentiment. The main takeaway to remember, is that all Catholics are still Christians, and just like with Baptist, Mormons, Evangelist, and even the Amish, we all believe in the same God and follow the teachings of Jesus in our own way. We would never try to stipulate what is right or wrong ourselves, as that is up to your own personal beliefs. The list can go on. I am a born Christian filled with water and spirit.
The bible says, unless one is born on f water ans spirit.. As previously discussed, protestants view justification as the moment God declares that a guilty person is righteous because of what Christ has done.
Sanctification , then, is the process of being made more righteous throughout your life. Rather than a vertical structure, Protestants see the church as having a horizontal structure. Svigel contrasts the role of the Catholic priest with the Protestant idea of the priesthood of all believers:. From Luther on, we have the ability to confess our sins to one another, pronounce forgiveness as the scripture says. Roman Catholics see veneration, not as praying to the Saints and the Virgin Mary, but as praying through them.
This is seen as similar to asking a brother or sister in Christ to pray for you. Furthermore, Dr. He is the creator of all things.
So she is the mother of angels. She is the mother of humanity, as is sometimes said. Moreover, the Catholic Church has also called her the Queen of Heaven. The Church over the centuries has at least some presence in most lands of the world, even if, often enough, it exists under stress, civil sanctions, or persecution as we see in the Middle East, and even here of a different kind in America today.
The Church was warned that this would likely be the case. Faith and Reason. But in a broader sense, Catholicism is not distinct just because it has a pope to whom, with the bishops, its unity over the ages is entrusted.
One of the fundamental things about Catholicism is what it holds to be true. And what makes Catholicism distinct from most other Christian sects and other religions or philosophies is that it considers itself to be solidly grounded in reason. Indeed, if we had no way independently to examine whether what it held was credible or not, we could not really accept this revelation as plausible. So we have minds and we are supposed to use them especially in our understanding of Catholicism.
Fr Lawrence Lew OP. What is it about Catholicism? Universality, to start The Papacy Its most obvious distinguishing mark in the public order is probably the position of the papacy. Tags: Catholicism Jesus Christ Pope.
Support Aleteia! The early days of Christianity witnessed the desert Fathers in Egypt, sects of hermits and Gnostic ascetics. Roman Catholicism traces its history to the apostles , especially the Apostle Peter. Peter is considered the first pope, and every Pope since is regarded as his spiritual successor.
It was only after the first thousand years of Christianity that this new denomination of Catholicism came into being. This was for those people who wanted to follow God through the Church. They give the leader of the church spiritual authority to provide a means for resolving disputes that could divide the church. At this point, corrupt church leaders were attempting to take power in the Byzantine Roman Empire.
The first unified Roman Catholic Church was created in A. It is virtually impossible to trace the origin of the Papacy, as the early Christians maintained their records in the Catacombs in Rome. The Church of Rome took control of the catacombs and revised the documents to include the title Pope for any early church leader that was deemed worthy. Roman Catholic Tradition and the Catechism of the Catholic Church prevail over scripture in every context. Scripture is used as a reference.
During their rise to political power in A. During this time, the Church of Rome not yet universal declared anyone who disagreed with their teachings as a heretic. Heretics were killed by the Church of Rome for any belief outside of Christianity and their written works were destroyed. During the plagues circa A. After this dark period, the full Catholic Church entered into society. The idea of the "pope" actually existing from the beginning of the church is scripturally correct as Christ had declared Peter, the spiritual rock.
It was the Holy Spirit who instituted the church when He visited the people in the Upper room on the day of Pentecost. Acts 2. On that day the "Christian Church was born when were "filled" with the Holy Spirit and tongues of fire rested upon their heads. They then began to "speak in tongues" as evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit. Throughout the majority of Christian history most theologians and Christian denominations have viewed homosexual behavior as immoral or sinful. However, in the past century some prominent theologians and Christian religious groups have espoused a wide variety of beliefs and practices towards homosexuals, including the establishment of some 'open and accepting' congregations.
In Roman Catholicism, homosexual acts are contrary to natural law and sinful while homosexual desires are disordered but not necessarily sinful. Both the Catholic church and other Christian denominations have had priests or pastors who were gay.
All homosexual priests have been censured by the Catholic Church. The Catholic Religion was the source of the Protestant and Anglican Churches as they evolved to break with Papal authority. Catholics do not allow priesthood to women. A Christian may follow any church based in the New Testament.
Some churches permit female priests, while others do not. Both Catholics and Christians venerate the Mother of Jesus, Mary , as well as the 12 disciples as the principal teachers of the faith. The Pope is not regarded as the supreme authority by Christianity. Some denominations of Christianity allow women to become priests after ordination. Roman Catholics and Christians believe that all people should strive to follow Christ's commands and example in their everyday actions.
For many, this includes obedience to the Ten Commandments. Christian practices include acts of piety such as prayer and Bible reading which even Catholics follow. Christians and Roman Catholics assemble for communal worship on Sunday, the day of the resurrection, though with Christians other liturgical practices often occur outside this setting.
In the Catholic Church, there is a distinction between Liturgy , which is the formal public and communal worship of the Church, and personal prayer or devotion, which may be public or private. Other Christians may not have such a system and may all pray together. The Liturgy is regulated by church authority and consists of the Eucharist the Mass , the other Sacraments , and the Liturgy of the Hours.
All Catholics are expected to participate in the liturgical life. Share this comparison:. If you read this far, you should follow us:. Diffen LLC, n. As a Catholic I accept other denominations as Christians and pray that we would find greater unity in supporting the christian way of life. Jesus spoke of love, understanding and not judging. We have so many assaults upon Christianity I believe we should come together to defend our common belief in one God, the Holy Trinity. Bigotry has no place in a loving humble Christian life.
Catholics believe that people ARE inherently good, but are damaged by original sin I think that this comparison was very informative to people who are not well versed in these subjects, however I found that there were some flaws.
The most outstanding of these flaws was that it said that Catholics believe that Humans are inherently evil. This is not true at all, as Catholics believe that people are inherently good, and that the human spirit has been damaged by original sin; this damage, along with all other damage to the soul caused by sin, gives all people concupiscence, or the tendency and continual temptation to do evil.
This came into existence when the original sin was originally committed, and was allowed to happen by God because he gave us freewill. That is also why there are bad things in the world, because God allows them to happen so that we may choose to love him.
In conclusion, people are inherently good but tend to do evil because they are damaged, but God has allowed this so that we may choose. If you don't believe me or you are also a Catholic and you disagree, well, I suppose you have the right to your opinion. This debate just makes me sad. I am a Christian, my bottom line is do you believe in Jesus and do you follow him? Beyond that wouldn't it be more fruitful to find and talk to people who havent found Jesus rather than debate the differences between denominations?
Most of this sounds like you are trying to one up each other! Historically we used to be one, then we broke off into different denominations. You don't have to agree on everything but there is no reason to get nasty.
Look up instead of around Where your information isn't correct it's skewed. You have so many "differences" labeled, where many of the "differences" are actually the same thing with different words.
I refer you to topics like original sin which are both so close in nature that to call them differences is twisting words around. Catholics are Christians The founder of the original protestant churches Mr.
Luther himself was heartbroken to have to leave the Catholic church btw, and his church is based almost entirely on Catholicism, only modified to fix the wrongs he saw at the time most of which have since been fixed. That being said the line between Catholicism and Protestantism is extremely narrow and your attempt to alienate Catholics is ridiculous, unnecessary, and ignorant.
